Fowey

Fowey, Cornwall

Fowey

Fowey is a delightful and picturesque town on the south coast of Cornwall.    It sits on the west bank of the River Fowey and is a great location for exploring Cornwall.   It offers great walks and has many of the country’s best gardens.

Doomsday Book Recording

Penventinue was recorded in the Domesday book with some fascinating facts recorded about the area at that time.

Coastal Walk to Pub

For guests who enjoy Walking and Sight Seeing, Fowey is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

We particularly enjoy the coastal walk from the cottages to Golant and can provide a map for this walk.  Furthermore, the famous Fisherman’s Arms pub in Golant village serves excellent food and has great views.

Guests can walk to Fowey within 25 minutes.  Some guests prefer to take a taxi and the cost is around £6.  We advise getting a taxi back in the evenings as the lane does not have street lights.

Shops and Restaurants

The town of Fowey is very unique.  It has not been commercialized unlike many harbour towns in Cornwall so it is packed with individual shops, including an excellent Butcher and Deli Kittows

It has old old fashioned pubs, modern pubs, coffee shops and a selection of fantastic restaurants all with great views of the River.  Local seafood and farm produce are available everywhere making it a real Foodie haven.

Fowey Harbour View

The Eden Project

The wonderul Eden Project is a 15 minute drive from the cottages.  The locals often visit to see the new projects taking place.  If you are here during the months of June & July we can recommend the Eden Sessions

Some huge bands come to play at this very unique venue,   The Biomes are a breathtaking back drop for any band.  The Eden staff manage the concerts very well and with a capacity for only 1500 people it makes the concerts feel very exclusive.  We highly recommend booking for a very different experience.

History and Places of Interest to visit

Guests can visit the finest historic houses and stately homes in Cornwall as a result of the wonderful history in the region.  Most noteworthy are the beautifully preserved country estates such as Lanhydrock House and Port Eliot Gardens & House

St Catherine’s Castle is situated on the cliff overlooking Ready Money cove in Fowey.   Further afield is Mount Edgecombe House and Country Park and a little further West is the famous and iconic St Michaels Mount

Surfing, Sailing and Water Sports

For anyone wanting to try Sailing or another Water Sport the Maritime Centre offers a variety of sailing and powerboating courses and experiences and the nearby north coast (40 minutes) provides excellent surfing through  the many surf schools there.   Fistral Surf School are really good and well located.  The English Surf School on the stunning Towan beach is also incredibly good.

Whether you are looking for relaxation, a foodie holiday, a family holiday, romantic weekend or an adventure packed holiday Penventinue Manor Farm is in the best location for all of this!
